Newsletter – Term 4, 2024

Wow, that term went fast! 😊

Over the past, very busy term, we learnt about some famous artists, and why their art was notable:

  • The artist, Alexander Calder, inspired our wire fish, covered in ‘treasures from sunken wrecks!’ We used wire and jewellers’ tools with great dexterity to attach the treasures- (good practise for making jewellery in our future lives!)
  • We painted and stamped our own ‘found objects’, then constructed thoughtful, Rosalie Gascoigne-inspired timber wall art, considering aesthetically pleasing composition in the arrangement of pieces.
  • Works by both Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Antoni Gaudi, as well as real and AI-rendered architecture from around the world, were the inspirations for a large pottery tile, featuring an original house design. We discovered a new way of imprinting clay, using a hot glue pattern.
  • Gustav Klimt’s sparkling, golden patterns influenced our own designs as we constructed and decorated dazzling chocolate boxes!
  • Georgia O’Keeffe’s painted close-ups of flowers led to our studies of strangely abstracted floral interiors, using magnifying glasses and careful observation… not to mention expert blending of paint in recreating the frills and folds of petals!
  • Jackson Pollock was the master of painting expression. In this fun activity, the challenge was to paint feelings, moods and expressions by intuitively choosing colours, and adding paint without touching a brush to the canvas!
  • Inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, we constructed our own Infinity Mirror, a marvellous optical illusion, complimented with a decorative dotted case.
  • By popular vote, we embraced the Christmas spirit and created a collection of festive decorations: a tree with handmade tree decorations (polymer clay, shrinkie material, paper, resin, beads); bon-bons (original design print-blocked paper); resin tree hanging ornament; upcycled paper ornaments; tassels and beads; snow man ornament; origami and straw stars; and more!

Thanks Everyone, for your wonderful support of our art program! We hope you all had fun whilst discovering some amazing world art.

Best wishes to you and your families for a wonder-filled, safe and rejuvenating holiday season,

Catherine and the Team at LimeDoor Studio
