Happy Holiday Season to our talented art students and lovely families! Thankyou for being a fabulous part of the LimeDoor Studio community during 2022!
Term 4 has been a happily muddy affair! During “Mudpie Mayhem”, students worked diligently, developing basic knowledge and skills of the potter. These allowed your young artists to make creative choices and therefore, to develop a very personalised body of work.
During the term, students worked enthusiastically,
- thinking about design; planning ahead with regard to what we actually want to make and the finish of the pre- and post-fired works (so many creative ideas!)
- joining clay properly, using the “score, slip, wiggle and smooth” method (you can’t fool the kiln!)
- wedging clay to remove air pockets and condition the clay (not easy!)
- exploring the techniques of pinch potting, coil and slab building (anything is possible with these techniques!)
- wheel throwing (very muddy, plenty of fun!) This comprised the very difficult skills of centreing the clay, judging depth and raising the walls of the clay vessel.
- painting with underglazes: care of the bisque pot, care of brushes and paints; focus on creative freedom and patience! (Amazing art happened!)
Whilst we have mostly dedicated our energies to earthenware clay and its many possibilities, we have also explored air drying and polymer clays.
I’m sure you will be thrilled with your young artist’s marvellous, quirky, beautiful, and always unique masterpieces!
Thankyou so much for your wonderful support of our art program. A friendly reminder that art classes will be paused for Term 1, 2023. LimeDoor Studio will be back with plenty more great art projects for Term 2!
We wish you all a safe, peaceful, fun, rejuvenating Holiday Season and hope to catch up with you again next year!
Kindest regards,
Catherine and the LimeDoor team
